Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games
This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.
Hogwarts Legacy makes Alohomora open a lockpicking puzzle. Magic can summon furniture and rearrange physics, but a padlock still wants several rotating sparks lined up correctly.
Games: Atomic Heart · Risen · Hogwarts Legacy · Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Each game pauses the wider adventure for a small mechanical problem. Atomic Heart cycles through several lock designs, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance II asks for careful tension and rotation.
The minigame makes a locked door personal. The kingdom can wait. This chest has opinions.
Games: Half-Life: Alyx · Homefront: The Revolution · Partisans 1941 · Warsaw Rising: City of Heroes
Half-Life: Alyx fights the Combine before Gordon Freeman's return. Homefront: The Revolution imagines occupied Philadelphia, while Partisans 1941 and Warsaw Rising draw on resistance to Nazi forces.
The scale changes, but the structure holds: a stronger occupier controls the streets, and the player works from hidden spaces, stolen equipment, and fragile local networks.
Games: AeternoBlade II · Blades of Time · Touhou Luna Nights · Gemini: Heroes Reborn
Time is a combat verb in all four games. It can stop enemies, reverse an exchange, or create a copy that repeats actions from the discarded timeline.
Blades of Time uses rewinding to produce a duplicate of Ayumi. The old actions continue while the new version does something else, making one fighter her own backup plan.
This is why the connection goes beyond a time-travel story. The player presses the power during the fight and changes what an attack can mean.
Games: East India Company · Westerado: Double Barreled · Northern Journey · South Scrimshaw, Part One
East, West, North, South. The latter two appear as Northern and the opening word of South Scrimshaw, but the compass remains readable.
South Scrimshaw, Part One presents alien natural history as a documentary. It is the oddest member of a group that also includes trading strategy, a pixel western, and a Norwegian first-person journey.
Trim each title to its first directional stem. Once Westerado gives up West, the board has nowhere left to hide.
The compass titles are wonderfully blunt after so many elaborate systems. CineLinkr also ends with simple words today: Milk, Cake, Chocolat, and Butter.
