Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games
This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.
Railroad Tycoon II lets a player build an industrial empire, watch stock prices, and discover that trains are mostly finance with whistles. The tiny locomotives are there to soften the news.
Games: Railroad Tycoon II · Railway Empire · Railway Empire 2 · Train Valley 2
Tracks create the puzzle and the economy. Railroad Tycoon II mixes network building with corporate control. The Railway Empire games add supply chains, competitors, and historical scenarios. Train Valley 2 pares the idea down into compact routing problems.
Every successful line needs somewhere to go, something worth carrying, and a junction that will not turn two expensive trains into modern art. The category is visible in the titles. The actual work starts after the reveal.
Games: Monster Hunter Wilds · Wild Hearts · Toukiden 2 · God Eater 3
Hunting games teach a peculiar form of anatomy. Horns can break, tails can come off, and armor can crack under focused attacks. Damage is not merely a shrinking bar. It changes the creature and often changes the reward.
God Eater 3 calls its version Bond Breaking. Wild Hearts adds its constructed Karakuri tools to the chase, while Monster Hunter Wilds exposes wounds that hunters can target. The useful tactical thought is also faintly rude: stop hitting the monster everywhere and choose a part.
Games: Nine Sols · En Garde! · Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown · Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Nine Sols describes its combat as Sekiro-lite, then adds talismans and a hand-drawn taopunk world. Wo Long makes deflection the answer to attacks that would flatten a passive guard. Both ask for nerve at exactly the moment retreat feels sensible.
En Garde! builds fencing around parries, ripostes, and environmental slapstick. The Lost Crown gives Sargon's counter system a more acrobatic frame.
These are not games where parrying is a nice bonus for experts. It is the grammar of the fight. Read the attack, answer on time, and enjoy one second of feeling brilliant before the next enemy begins.
Games: Crow Country · Mouthwashing · Fear the Spotlight · Slitterhead
The shared year hides four different anxieties. Crow Country revives the look of 1990s survival horror inside an abandoned theme park. Mouthwashing traps a damaged crew in a doomed freighter. Slitterhead sends body-hopping combat through a monster-infested city.
Fear the Spotlight needs a footnote: Cozy Game Pals first released it on itch.io in 2023, then withdrew it and returned with an expanded commercial edition in 2024 under Blumhouse Games. The row uses that major release.
The calendar supplies the link, but genre keeps it from becoming bookkeeping. All four arrived in 2024 and all four found a different object to point at while saying, "This is probably fine."
The parry group demanded the cleanest click. Today's CineLinkr puzzle also rewards watching the frame, though its changing aspect ratios will not hit you with a spear for blinking.
