PixelLinkr #110: The Story Behind the Puzzle

Spoilers ahead: for the puzzle and the movies/games

This post assumes you've already solved the puzzle. It reveals all categories and their connections, and discusses plot details, endings, and spoilers for featured movies/games throughout.

Unpacking is not on today's board, but Moving Out makes a useful opposite number: what if moving house had less memory and more screaming about couches? Today's puzzle likes games that turn ordinary nouns into stress positions.


🟢 Easy: Rabbit heroes

Games: Jazz Jackrabbit · Lugaru · Overgrowth · Bucky O'Hare

Jazz Jackrabbit is the bright green clue with a blaster. Bucky O'Hare has the arcade-and-comics Saturday-morning flavor. Lugaru and Overgrowth are rougher, stranger picks, built around martial-arts rabbits who kick with upsetting force.

The row works because the protagonist type is specific. These are not just animal games. Rabbits and rabbit-like heroes are out front, carrying the action themselves. Somewhere, Bugs Bunny is nodding and pretending he invented the genre.


🟡 Medium: Chaotic moving co-op

Games: Moving Out · Moving Out 2 · Get Packed · Tools Up!

Moving Out understands that furniture physics can ruin a friendship faster than any boss fight. The sequel adds more dimensions and more ways to blame the person holding the other end of the sofa. Get Packed pushes the same removal-service chaos harder, with elastic bodies and objects that refuse dignity.

Tools Up! is renovation rather than moving, but it fits the shared co-op disaster shape: a domestic job, a timer, physics, and four people making the floor worse. The category is about work that should be practical becoming slapstick because players are involved.


🔵 Hard: Orbital survival management

Games: Ixion · Ostranauts · Space Haven · Starmancer

Ixion puts the player in charge of a moving space station full of people who keep needing heat, food, hull integrity, and hope. Space Haven and Starmancer also understand that space settlement is mostly logistics with better windows. Ostranauts adds grimy ship repair and debt pressure.

This row is not just "games in space." It is management under orbital pressure. You are not the hero with a laser rifle. You are the person checking whether the air is still breathable and whether the crew has started resenting the floor plan.


🟣 Tricky: Ink in the title

Games: Inkulinati · Inked · INKS. · Inkbound

Inkulinati is the best misdirect because the ink is both title and aesthetic. It draws medieval manuscript combat into something that looks scholarly until a rabbit archer starts making decisions. Inked and Inkbound are cleaner title clues. INKS. brings the word in through pinball splashes and paint marks.

The aha is surface-level, but it is still satisfying: ink, inky, inked, Inkbound. Nothing else about the games has to agree. That is why title-word rows work when they are used sparingly. They let the puzzle stop being clever for a second and point at the label.

The orbital survival row is the one I would least want to live inside. Today's CineLinkr puzzle had evil hands, which feels easier to diagnose than a station-wide oxygen shortage.
